Late at Tate: Beyond Scale takes place on October 2nd and features a whole host of live contemporary classical performances, highlights include the 2008 and 09 DMC World Champion DJ Switch performing Gabriel Prokofiev’s Concerto for Turntables & Orchestra, hi-octane percussion led music with an electronic sound and strong visual performance from Powerplant led by genre trashing percussionist Joby Burgess, a unique electro-acoustic composition by Chris Wheeler performed by the Heritage Horns exploring eighteenth century ideas of the sublime with horns heralding from the lofty heights of the Duveen Gallery and lastly what will no doubt be a fascinating discussion exploring the parallel histories of modern art and modern music with author David Stubbs and composer Gabriel Prokofiev amongst others – I’m really very excited about this!

Entry is free and the night kicks off at 6.30PM.  Join us!

The filmmaker and composer Phill Niblock and German ensemble Nelly Boyd will play live in the Serpentine Summer Pavilion on 9 Oct, 8pm.

Long time no speak or see!  Anyhow, it’s great to see where everyone is at and also what awesome projects you are all up to!

I am off to India on Sunday for three weeks to produce an event for this years Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF).  Me and Kirk McElhinney of The Safires will be spending two intensive weeks in Jaipur working with musicians from across Rajasthan on a India/UK folk music collaboration and then presenting the results with a performance on in Jodhpur  for RIFF.

So myself and the Longplayer Trust have been working hard towards Longplayer Live.

The first ever live performance of a section from Jem Finer’s thousand-year composition Longplayer takes place at the Roundhouse in just over a weeks’ time. This one-off performance will be played by a 26-strong all-star orchestra on a unique 20-metre wide instrument – effectively a giant ‘bronze age synthesizer’, with highly resonant singing bowls for tone generators and humans for power.

In parallel with the live performance in the Roundhouse’s main space, the Artangel Longplayer Conversation 2009 – an epic relay of one-to-one conversations inspired by the philosophical implications of long time – will take place in the Studio Theatre. You can get tickets here.

Yoshida Tatsuya - live at the Serpentine Gallery

Hooray for the first New Music Plus co-production! One of our team has written about it on the PRSF blog here and photos  are available in a flickr slideshow.

So I’m now taking this time to re-brand my company, Chimera Productions. One of the things NMP has highlighted is the importance of clarity of ideas and presentation because so often as an independent producer everything is clear in your head but possibly not so to those outside.

Therefore, I’m in the process of creating my business plan, preparing copy and collating all my archive material so that I can re-launch my website ready for the new season of Blank Canvas on the 17th September (at Cafe Oto) and my Late at Tate Britain on 2nd October (my first co-production with the Tate as part of NMP).

This is immense fun – surely beats going on holiday!

For their first musical event at it’s Summer Pavilion, the Serpentine Gallery presents the two drummers Tatsuya Yoshida and Charles Hayward.

Charles Hayward, founder of This Heat and Camberwell Now and Tatsuya Yoshida, known for his prog-rock band project Ruins are both performing a solo drums and vocal set each before presenting on a collaborative performance as a 3rd set of this night.

The event is programmed by the Serpentine Gallery,  OTO Projects and New Music Plus… producer Andi Studer.  It forms part of a 3 night series with Tatsuya Yoshida playing further events at Cafe OTO on 8 and 9 August.
